Troubles in Arabia Felix: Yemen Denies Iranian Claims of Saudi Air Strikes

Yemeni rebel sources (Houthis) assert that Saudi forces are directly involved in the war waged by government forces …..Th sources added that Riyadh has agreed for the yemeni Air Force to use the airbase at Khamis Mesheit and for Saudi war jets to fly sorties in support......

Maybe, but the “rebel sources” is not a good enough source for me, not yet. I need to see it on Jon Stewart and Colbert to consider it seriously.

Yemen denies Tehran’s lies about Saudis bombing rebels. A Yemeni military official has refuted Iranian radio claims that the Saudi Air Force is taking part in military operations that Yemeni forces are undertaking against the terrorist destructive operations against the people of Sa’ada Province….

“The source said the report is completely untrue….and that Yemeni armed and security forces are capable of undertaking their constitutional and legal duties of defending the country’s water wells, its security, stability, achievements, higher interests….. …yada, yada. yada.”

Maybe, No other agency has accepted the Iranian claim, originally made by the rebels themselves. But I am not sure about those “achievements”.

As I reported two weeks ago, Yemen is being torn by at least three forces: rebels in the North, al-Qaeda, and Southerners who want to regain their independence. Most Arab regimes and commentators are siding with the Saleh regime, in power for thirty years. Just as they all insist in supporting the Sudanese regime against regional desire for self-determination. I am sure there are some who think it may not be a bad idea, but they are afraid to express their opinion. This is not new: the Jordanians and Saudis strongly encouraged and supported Syrian secession from its union with Egypt many years ago.

They all seem to think that somehow this is bad for the region. Maybe they worry that it will awaken secessionist feelings in other Arab states?
