The Grasshopper, the Ass, and the One-Eyed Jack in Afghan Elections


“They are crisscrossing the country on the backs of asses. Candidates exchange charges in Afghan presidential campaign…..... Afghan candidates may be distinguished from those in other countries in that they are supported by warlords and travel on donkeys…..But they make promises and exchange insults like candidates in other countries….

“All candidates accuse others of robbery, drug trafficking, and violating human rights. They all consider their rivals dangerous for democracy….”

They may be riding donkeys, or asses, but we can be sure of one thing: when the dust settles they will have elected another ass. Almost certainly the same ass. I got used to call him the ‘grasshopper’, but I am considering the new name.
But if NATO abandons the border areas as reported yesterday, the grasshopper will have a nasty one-eyed rival in-country.
 
Speaking of campaign transport, whatever happened to the ‘Straight Talk Express’? Did Joe the Plumber and Sarah Palin drive it into a ditch trying to elope with a dying Republican Party?
