Vietnamization Redux: Taliban, al-Qaeda, Viet Cong, NVA

KABUL, Afghanistan: U.S. mulls pulling troops from remote Afghan outposts— The military commander in Afghanistan is considering pulling American troops out of some remote outposts on the country's mountainous eastern border with Pakistan, where local guerrillas are allied with the Taliban and al Qaida, U.S. officials told McClatchy. Abandon
ing U.S. forward outposts, and possibly turning them over to Afghan forces, would be a tacit admission that the presence of American troops has fueled insecurity by embroiling them in local feuds and driving some local tribes to align with the Taliban…..”

Shades of Vietnamization, ARVN, NVA, and Viet Cong perchance……I know it is a much-used cliche..
This would probably lead to more pressure on Pakistan to abandon her side of the border to the Taliban and their al-Qaeda allies. Taliban empowerment means are al-Qaeda empowerment in spite of all the political-diplomatic-military jargon flooding the media. Of course I am just a humble economist, the closest I ever got to military strategy is a good game of poker.
