The New Salafis of Tehran: Ahamadinejad, the Deep South, and Alaska
The Salafi Shi’a:

Now the Iranians are following in the footsteps of the Salafis, whose doctrine calls for obeying the rulers no matter how lousy, how oppressive, as long as he builds mosques and preys (or pretend to prey). This doctrine explains the secret of the rise in recent years of the (Sunni) Salafis in many Arab states. They have their roots in the Wahhabi doctrine of Saudi Arabia, but they go back farther thab that, to some shaikhs from the Middle Ages to justify their doctrine: beyond that, they select some of the Hadeeth traditions.
Rulers like that idea, the stipulation that they should be obeyed as long as they give the Salafis what they want. So they build mosque at a faster rate than schools, electric power plants, and hospitals. That also explains why there are shortages of electricity during the hot summer months, but there is never a shortage of mosques to hire Salafis as their shaikhs. They also largely hand over their educational systems to be injected with the hatred of “the other”.
What the Islamic Salafis really want are souls, which makes them no different from the Christian Salafis of the segregationist pockets of the Deep South and Alaska (like Wasilla, even with its methamphetamine labs).
Now it looks like the former revolutionaries of Tehran are adopting the doctrine of those who call them heretics, the Salafis. They would like to turn the ancient Shi’a doctrine of rebellion against oppression into a Salafi-like surrender to the powerful oligarchs in exchange for favors.
