Despair at Dormant Winds of New Gulf War

“When Republican George W Bush waged his campaign for the presidency against Al Gore (who is Jewish), many observers thought the Democrat would win…..
He is of the same school as other former Ba'athists and elites, like General W. al-Samarrai, former head of Saddam’s Military Intelligence, who seems desperate for a new war, any war, by anyone in the Gulf region.
As for cooperation with the US in the Iraq War: I thought, for some reason, that only Arab countries neighboring Iraq were partners of the Bush administration in the invasion of Iraq (except for Syria and non-Arabs Turkey and Iran). After all, US and British ground, air, and naval forces struck from Arab lands, not from Iran, Turkey, or Syria.
All other Arab states were also involved in easing logistics and communications support for the invasion. An invasion that I supported at the time, I might add- big mistake.
The fact is that Iran's rulers benefited, inadvertently, from Mr. Bush's policies in the Middle East and from the neocons' saber-rattling over eight years. Iran's mullahs have also benefited greatly from the indecisiveness and stupidity of Arab leaders (something any foe can rely on with confidence), who failed to accept that Iraq had changed and opted instead for playing the sectarian card.
Still, publishing a column in a Gulf website should be no reason to whitewash the role of Arab states. Or maybe it should be. And what is this talk about the Taliban being the 'patriotic' government of Afghanistan. Afghanistan does not have patriotic regimes, it has tribal/ethnic regimes and religious fanatic/tribal/ethnic regimes.
Last time Afghanistan had a regime that was not ethnic/tribal/fundamentalist was after the communist coup of 1978: and we know what happened after that.
In any case the (Persian) Gulf cannot withstand another war, the fourth in one generation.
Also: not that it matters, but Al Gore is not Jewish, this is a dummy legend that I have encountered in much Arab media over the years. It only reflects our own tribal/sectarian/ethnocentric obsessions. By this time, every idiot and half the half-wits believe it (the latter probably includes most rulers and all those who write about it).
Cheers
