“The Hawaii senate overwhelmingly approved a draft law to celebrate Islam every year. Henceforth September 24, equivalent to the Hegira, will be Islam day in Hawaii. The law notes that Hawaii is known for its tolerance and a place where various religions and cultures coexist……).” al-Arabiya
Actually there were some objections, but the majority voted for it.
Does this mean all mai tai at sunset services will be suspended for that day? And will we see a New York Times headline: “Riyadh to celebrate Christmas….2 thousand Christians and one thousand Jews live in Medina (well the Jews used to mostly own it in ye olde days)…”
About Medina: the Jews were kicked out and they moved farther north. They were kicked out again by the Caliph Omar I, and they decided to go back to Palestine. Forget the oil, the elders and the rabbis said, we can live on oranges and olives. And grapes.
They didn’t know they would be following them up north a few years later.
Where is Muqtada:
What the hell was young cleric (the West calls him firebrand cleric and I thought they all were) Muqtada al-Sadr doing popping up in Turkey last week, with much fanfare and meetings with that country’s top leaders? He presided over a conference on Iraq. I thought he is supposed to be still in graduate school working toward a degree. His uncle, Ayatollah Mohammed Baqir al-Sadr of the Da’awa Party, who was tortured and murdered by Saddam along with his sister, was a prolific reader and writer, including a couple of treatises on economics and Communism.
Maybe the neighboring Arab oligarchs will start calling him an agent of Turkey now.
