Arab Nuclear Phobia
“The Israeli nuclear arsenal no longer represents a threat to the region, because in the view of the West, and of some Arabs, it is a benign arsenal, or perhaps a necessary arsenal to protect Arab regimes. We will not be surprised if Israeli president Shimon Peres speaks for the Arab regimes during his visit to Washington. The ‘coalition of the scared’ includes Arabs as well as Israelis. The Arabs are in a state of growing fear: they are terrified of the Iranian nuclear program, and terrified of the United States making a deal with Iran that would crown that country as a regional leader. Robert Gates is visiting the scares Arabs to calm them and reassure them that current US diplomacy will not affect the long term relations with certain Arab countries. Gates is dealing with the Arab leaders as if they are children, otherwise how can he bush such naïve reassurances.” Al-Quds Alarabi
